Self-defense is a natural instinct, as natural as being born. If anything, self-defense can be considered a Natural Right. As would be protection of others, property, and food supply. And, of course, those are the elements of Liberty and a moral society. The right for people to defend their own lives, property and their loved ones IS the most basic of all morality. When the government bans this Natural Right, the government is wrong.

What are Natural Rights? DUH!HA!HUH?
by NoFreeLunch4u2

I would ask that you observe nature, how beings and critters act and interact with one another. Consider survival for instance, how the fight for it is natural and evident in all but brainwashed people. Self defense is the critical factor in the equation, something that comes by you naturally. In nature we collect food to eat and feed our offspring, if someone were to attempt to take this food without our consent we would fight to keep it -- just as we would to protect our shelter. Should anyone try to trap us we would fight, even die in the attempt to remain free. Life, Liberty and Property are the basics, survival is dependent on them and we have this "instinct" sewn in the fabric of our being to defend them.

It's part of who you are, part of how we naturally function and live until we're educated into believing something else. The bad guys are selling us greener grass all our lives and many have forgotten, in some the indoctrination began so young they never really knew. Yet that instinct, that will still lives inside however suppressed it might be. Even the most pacifist, the most socialist-minded will resort to defending self, family and property if pushed. (I acknowledge there are anomalies and exceptions.) We have to, it comes by us naturally.

When we recognize this we must recognize that while we have the right to defend we have no right to conquer. Just as I have my rights so must all others. Think on this for a moment and see where you draw the line. The food you collect for you and your family, do I have the same "right" to it as you or your children? How about your shelter? How about your labor? Can I use you for whatever purpose I see fit, without your consent? How will you respond to my use of force to violate you and yours?

People existed long before there was government, long before the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Do you think people had these same instincts prior to government? Of course. It's a part of your being, your nature -- it doesn't show up one day suddenly, although the keen awareness typically does.

If you think governments assign rights, or men or groups of men, please tell me which ones do so correctly, or must I simply accept what other people determine for me?
